2011-2012 Objectives

 

Land Protection

  • Continue acquisition of North Edge estuarine lands
  • Continue working with our partners to complete the Conservation Action Plan for the Nehalem Watershed, and identify the role of the Trust in the implementation of the plan.
  • Continue working towards acquiring an Open Space Park with the City of Manzanita.


Stewardship and Restoration

  • Monitor Trust properties on a regular basis and document stewardship activities and changes in conservation values.
  •  Manage native plant nursery and expand plant propagation activities
  • Conduct stewardship and restoration projects.

o      Alder Creek Farm

  • Continue restoration planting and maintenance particularly around the placed stumps on the southwest portion of the property, subject to NRCS approval, and in the uplands to the north east side of the property.
  • Continue invasive plant removal, including along the west boundary.
  • Support wetlands planting and maintenance
  • Complete siding of barn clerestory
  • Explore demolition of the milk house
  • Establish a facilities fund for ongoing maintenance needs
  • Complete front fence along the northern property line

o      Vosberg Creek

  • Explore restoring the sinuosity of the Vosberg Creek with ODFW
  • Maintain and monitor plantings and remove non-native/invasive plants
  • Review concept of trail and implementation if appropriate
    • Cedar Creek
  • Continue removal of small debris on the properties
  • Continue planting native plants and removing non-native plants.
    • Sitka Wetlands
  • Complete management plan and begin implementation of that plan, including an educational trail.
  • Begin removal of non-native plants.

 Community Outreach & Education

  • Conduct two adult workshops on local ecology
  • Continue development of the Nehalem Teaching Trail with a focus on the wetlands, meadow, and dune habitats.
  • Continue watershed education field trips for K-6 students.
  • Continue presence at special community events: Farmer’s Market and Alternative Gift Fair.
  • Make presentations to at least two local organizations.
  • Continue to publish and distribute two newsletters and an annual report.
  • Conduct speakers series (2) as educational events
  • Offer Coastal Edge train trip with interpreter
  • Conduct community celebrations/events
    • Host a Fall Harvest Celebration
    • Earth Day/Volunteer Appreciation Event
    • Trust 10th Anniversary Celebration

 Coastal Food Ecology Center

  • Increase the capacity of the community gardens & greenhouse at Alder Creek Farm
  • Increase the donation of vegetables to the North County Food Bank
  • Increase outreach and number of volunteers for the permaculture garden.
  • Expand the duck project to include a 4-H group
  • Provide and upgrade regular maintenance for the orchard
  • Present two adult gardening workshops 

 Fundraising/Development

    • Further diversify Trust funding base and develop organizational capacity

o      Add 2 members to development committee

o      Add 50 new members and 5 new business members

o      Increase Major Donor Circle by 2 or upgrade 2 existing donors

o      Conduct two appeals - Earth Day and Year-end

o      Develop and submit grant(s) to fund development services contract

o      Develop grants as needed to support programs

o      Implement bequest awareness campaign

o      Produced lapsed member mailing and mailing to prospects

o      Continue annual signature events – Living Locally & Pie Night

    •  Develop ways to raise funds for acquisition & stewardship of new properties in conjunction with the Land Protection Committee

 

Trust Administration and Board Development

  • Increase staff hours to 35 hours/week, revise job description and work plan
  • Develop a plan for further training by identifying needed skills for staff, Board and volunteers
  • Add one additional Board member to reach eight members.
  • Explore path to Land Trust Alliance accreditation
