Vosburg Creek

This 8.5-acre parcel of land is located on the South-west edge of the City of Wheeler.  It extends from its northern boundary of Highway 101 south 1,600 feet, and from Dubois Street west 210 feet.

History

The Vosburg Creek area has been and is now a forested wetlands area.  1939 aerial photos show that it once contained a baseball playing field.  Vosburg Creek supports coho, chinook and chum salmon.  The property was used for a chum hatchery until about 1990.   It was donated to the Lower Nehalem Community Trust in 2005.

Restoration has been focused on the removal of hatchery infrastructure, invasive plants removal, restoration of conifers and placement of large wood in the stream.

Current Use

The Trust maintains two buildings and a trail for educational programs, and public use.
