WHAT WE’LL DO: We will collect invasive English ivy from one of our properties in Wheeler. The ivy will be used in the basketry workshop, to show how local plants fit in to traditional craft activities. As integral activities the ivy collection and the basketry workshop (on April 2) will demonstrate how our plants, art, and daily needs interact to enable the land to support tradition.
WHERE: Meet at the intersection of Hemlock and Highway 101, at the north end of Wheeler, Oregon. (See map) We will move from there to the site where we will collect the ivy.
WHEN: Friday, April 1. Please arrive by 10:00 a.m. We’ll work until about noon.
WHAT TO BRING: We will be cutting English ivy, so loppers and clippers will be useful. We will provide tools, though if you have ones you prefer to use, you may bring them. Please wear sturdy, covered shoes, dress for variable weather, and bring protective eyewear if you can. If you have a favorite pair of gloves, bring them too, or we’ll lend you a pair. We may be near blackberries and other plants, so long-sleeved shirts and eye protection can help keep you safe from scrapes and cuts.
