Friday Stewardship Event and Celebration!

October 29, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This Friday, October 29, our Stewardship Project will wrap up a most challenging effort. We have almost finished removing the target blackberry patch, thanks to so many hours of work by dedicated hands! Come help us as we reach the end of this phase. (We’ll stop early and celebrate this victory with some berry pie!! There also will be some cider pressing, right after we finish our work on the patch.)

On this last day for the project (this season) we will look for remnant roots and get rid a few stragglers in the rushes on the wildlife sanctuary area of Alder Creek Farm, just south of the Garden fence. Our focus on this one patch is helping us to better understand how these patches evolve, and how best to remove them and limit their spread, so we can begin to bring this nasty invasive under control throughout Alder Creek Farm.

We are also looking into what native flowers we’ll be able to put in their place, with the hope they will out-compete the invasive grasses and blackberries and survive the browsing of elk and deer.

Please meet at Alder Creek Farm at 10:00 a.m. (see map, below)

We will provide sturdy gloves and tools, but if you have a favorite pair of gloves, please bring them along (especially if they’re nice and thick). If you have chaps, they might help too.

If you are are new to LNCT and are interested in participating in our activities, please sign up to volunteer with us through our Volunteer Signup page!

I hope to see you there!

The elk thank you, too!
