STEWARDSHIP – BOTTS MARSH – Holly, Blackberry, and Scotch Broom, Oh My!

May 27, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

On two Fridays in May we will return to the dike along Botts and McCoy wetlands, north of Wheeler, to continue our control of English holly, blackberry, and Scotch broom. Last year we removed these invasive plants from this area. However, there is almost always a seed stock in the soil and roots that we miss, so it takes multiple years to eradicate an invasive. This year we will return to hunt down any new growth of these plants along the dike. Come out for a nice morning along the river!

When:  Friday mornings, May 20 & 27
Where: West of Hwy 101, across from the end of Hwy 53. (look for the gap in the guardrail leading down to the dike)

This activity will take us on rough terrain along the dike, so please wear sturdy shoes and dress for variable weather. Eye protection and long sleeves can also help to protect you from blackberry thorns and whipping branches.
