Locally sourced native plants and community education are keys to sustainable land and habitat restoration. We currently receive the majority of our plant material used in restoration and planting projects from our partner the Northwest Oregon Restoration Partnership with a number of certain species being propagated in our own nursery. With an increase and continuation of participation in propagation efforts we will be able to meet our, and others’, native plant material needs.
Our Native Plant Nursery aims to source 100% of our annual planting needs for our restoration activities and be a resource for native plant material for local projects sponsored by other conservation organizations, governmental agencies and private individuals. We would like to increase adaptability, diversity and genetic variability of plants, trees and shrubs indigenous to the Nehalem region of the Oregon coast through the propagation and distribution of locally sourced and propagated stock. As we continue to develop our native plant propagation program we look forward to working with anyone interested in native plants!
An important part of the work at our Community Garden is making sure that our selection of native plants are healthy and ready to be planted. At our native plant nursery the plants are tended to by gardeners and readied for life outside the care of our garden.
