the Neahkahnie Creek Story
After years of negotiations and working with the previous land owner, the Trust accepted the donation of the Neahkahnie Creek property from Tom and Maureen Nash in January of 2016 with support from the local community to cover costs associated with the acquisition. The property was historically part of a larger contiguous parcel but was partitioned in 2015 to be donated to the Trust. Neahkahnie Creek is a tributary of Alder Creek, which flows through another property held by the Trust, Alder Creek Farm, the Trust’s first property. Protection of this piece of Neahkahnie Creek provides anadromous fish habitat, encourages conservation local conservation efforts, protects the water quality of coastal streams and Nehalem Bay, and protects critical wildlife habitat in our community.
