Migratory Bird Day Celebration

Join local conservation, education, and community science organizations to learn about and celebrate our birds!

>>>  RSVP HERE  <<<

(Your r.s.v.p is not required but helps us to plan for the day)

When? Saturday, May 13th, 2023 from 10AM- 2PM

Where? Lower Nehalem Community Trust’s Alder Creek Farm,
35955 Underhill Lane, Nehalem, OR 97131

Who? Everyone! This is an inclusive event for all ages, abilities and identities, with birding opportunities for all. We will have some pairs of binoculars to loan and spotting scopes set up to observe birds in different habitats throughout the farm, from both easily accessible locations and further afield.

Celebrate: Come celebrate Spring migration on the North Coast and the important efforts that local organizations are making to protect and help birds and the habitats they depend on.

Schedule of Events

10:00AM: Get to know your N. Coast Birds – Bird walk and talk with expert local birding guides

11:30AM: Native Plants and Bird Connections – Guided tour of the Nehalem Ethnobotanic Teaching Trail

1:00PM: Community Science for Conservation – Bird Walk and Talk with coastal community science biologist

2:00PM: Grand Tally!

Throughout the Day:
‘BIG SIT’ – Bring something comfy to sit on (or pull up some grass) and join one of our three ‘Big Sit’ stations where seasoned birders will help point out species by sight and sound and will keep a running tally of birds throughout the day. Participants may arrive and join for any portion of time between 10am and 2pm. Spotting scopes will be available to help locate and observe migratory and resident species.

GET TO KNOW YOUR LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS – Interactive tabling displays with local partners working in the fields of conservation, education and wildlife rehabilitation. Come learn more about community conservation and the amazing projects that are happening around the N. Coast!

KID’S STATION – Art and educational activities for some family fun.

Accessibility: There is a gravel road from the parking area to the main barn/greenhouse. This path is flat and limited accessible parking is available within 40 feet of the central location of this event. There is an accessible picnic table available on the paved central space overlooking the wildlife sanctuary and seasonal wetland.

Public Health and Safety: This is an outdoor event with some activities happening in an open-air barn. Please exercise personal discretion and awareness of other’s comfort levels and needs.

Early birders are welcome to head to Alder Creek Farm for self-guided birding anytime after daybreak. If you aren’t able to catch the 2pm tally, feel free to upload your list and photos to eBird or email: emilyakdedian@nehalemtrust.org.
