Rebroadcast – LNCT’s webinar “The Impact of Forest Structure on Water Quality and Fish”

July 15, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

NCCWP invites our community to the following Zoom presentation:
Topic: “The Impact of Forest Structure on Water Quality and Fish” – A Lower Nehalem Community Trust Webinar (Replayed with new, live question and answer session):

TimeThursday, July 15, 2021, at 6:00 P.M. Pacific Time (US and Canada)
See Zoom link, below.

In the webinar, Gabe Shoeships and Joshua Seeds discuss the importance of complex forest structure for the protection of both water quality and First Foods – in particular, native fish habitat.
Gabe is a Native American who grew up in Oregon.  He is experienced in environmental restoration and the enhancement of Indigenous First Foods, focusing on native fish of the Pacific Northwest.  Gabe is an enrolled citizen of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, and leads the non-profit Tributaries Network.
Josh works for Oregon DEQ to help communities deal with forest and water quality issues.  He shares perspectives from years of hiking and working in the forests of the Pacific Northwest.
In coastal Oregon, forests and fish are facing pressures from growing fire danger, sky-high timber and land prices, rising demands for recreation, inadequate regulations, and global warming. Native fish populations are dwindling and the quality and quantity of drinking water is threatened.  At the same time, appreciation is growing for the stewardship practices of the Indigenous Peoples who thrived here for thousands of years before these lands and waters became subject to modern development and market-driven extraction of fish and timber.
Please join NCCWP for the rebroadcast of these fine presentations, followed by a live question and answer session moderated by Peter Karnig.  Trygve Steen, Ph.D., who taught forest ecology at Portland State University for decades, will also be on-hand to answer questions.
